Friday February 21st – Sunday February 23rd: Saint Columba’s House, Woking
It will involve many practical and successful strategies and ideas to help combat what for so many of us is a real problem, working on how we think and feel about our performances to how we approach them physically.
The tutor for the course will be Danielle Perrett who enjoys an extremely varied career as a harpist which, in addition to performing, involves teaching, examining, adjudicating, and giving masterclasses in the UK and in many countries around the world.
The course will be an extended version of the successful workshop which Danielle gave in Ashwell, Hertfordshire, in June 2013. It will allow the ideas and strategies that were introduced at that workshop to be explored in more depth.
Some of the comments on the Ashwell workshop:
This course (the workshop at Ashwell) made me realise that other people felt the same way as me, and that I wasn’t the only person to suffer from nerves. Danielle is the perfect person to lead this course as not only is she a fantastic harpist, she is extremely personable and lovely, and made us all feel at ease straight away. She had some really interesting and helpful tips and thoughts on the subject, and encouraged us all to share our thoughts too. (Gemma)
The Performance Skills Workshop helped me more understand the psychology of performance. The biggest revelation was that what I hear and what others experience are two very different things. (Adele)
Musicians other than harp players are also welcome to apply to join the course.
The course is residential and runs from Friday February 21st until Sunday February 23rd. Arrival will be from 2.30 pm on the Friday, and the course ends after lunch on the Sunday.
For those who can’t manage the whole weekend, it will be possible to attend just for the day on Saturday, but the final performance where you can try out what you have learnt during the course will not take place until the Sunday.
The venue for the course is Saint Columba’s House, Woking, Surrey GU22 8AB
